Drawing my cousin Ollie

Illustration project

For my little cousin's 8th birthday, my Mum gave me an illustration project to draw him in my style, since he likes my drawings.

I used some photos of him for reference. I drew him wearing a long sleeved t-shirt under a short sleeved slightly baggy t-shirts, eventually adding an "O" for his first initial and an "8" on his sleeve for his age.

One feature I put extra effort into was his hair, he has rather spiky and twisty hair that was a little bit difficult to draw as "intentionally unintentional" wiry. In real life he has a slightly wide nose and chin with prominent ears, I included these features in this drawing.

Other accessories he owns, that I carried over into this project, was a little grey satchel he made himself and his pair of very blue running shoes.

I drew him in a sort-of superhero pose holding screwdrivers between his fingers representing his hobbies making electronic projects and robots. I also added some tone shading underneath his shoes as a "pseudo-floor" to make the drawing look grounded rather than floating in space.

He's a fun 8-year-old and I like chatting with him.
